Summary
From 17 January 2025, new broadband, mobile and pay TV contracts cannot use inflation linked or percentage based mid-contract price rise terms. Any in-contract rise must be stated clearly in pounds and pence.
Definition
Mid-contract price rises are increases applied during the minimum term of a broadband, mobile or pay TV contract. Ofcom changed the rules from 17 January 2025 so new contracts cannot include inflation linked or percentage based price rise terms. Providers can still include future price rises, but they must be shown clearly in pounds and pence at the point of sale. For a mover, the practical check is to record the starting monthly price, any stated future monthly increase, when it applies, contract length, promotional end date and total first year or contract period cost.
