Key Stage 2 measures explained

Summary

Key Stage 2 measures are primary school performance measures in England, usually focused on the end of primary school. The main headline measure is the percentage of pupils meeting the expected standard in reading, writing and maths. Other measures can include higher standard attainment, average scaled scores and school level progress measures where they are available.

For buyers, Key Stage 2 data should be treated as context rather than a simple ranking. Small cohorts can move results sharply, and recent years have had limitations because robust baseline data was not available for some progress measures. The safest approach is to read the latest data, look at trends where available, check the technical notes, and combine the numbers with inspection findings, curriculum information, SEND provision and admissions likelihood.
