How to read the Ofcom checker and provider results

Summary

The Ofcom checker is a strong starting point for broadband and mobile availability, but it is not the final orderability test. You still need to confirm the exact address with the network or provider.

Definition

The Ofcom broadband and mobile coverage checker lets users enter a postcode and view broadband availability by speed class and mobile coverage by provider. Fixed broadband results show categories such as standard, superfast and ultrafast, while mobile results distinguish network and coverage conditions such as indoor and outdoor availability. These results are predictions or reported availability indicators, not a guarantee that a service can be installed at one exact dwelling. Provider or network address checkers, such as Openreach, Virgin Media or CityFibre, should be used next to confirm orderability, install lead time, wayleave issues and product availability.
