Summary
Auto-compensation is money credited automatically by signed-up providers when certain broadband or landline service problems happen. It covers delayed repairs, missed appointments and delayed starts.
Definition
Auto-compensation is Ofcom’s voluntary automatic compensation scheme for landline and broadband customers of participating providers. It applies when a provider misses a repair or installation appointment, delays the start of a new service, or delays repair after a total loss of service beyond the scheme thresholds. As of Ofcom’s April 2026 update, the headline amounts are £10.34 per day for delayed repair following loss of service, £32.31 for a missed appointment, and £6.46 per day for delays to the start of a new service. The payment is normally credited automatically, but only if the issue and provider fall within the scheme rules.
